Movie premieres are no big deal outside the entertainment industry, as countless events take place every year at various venues across different festivals and theatres. And they all, more or less, follow a standard procedure, involving photos, paparazzi and fan interactions, celebrity entries, and shabang. But every once in a while, a premiere captures attention beyond the usual Hollywood chatter. And one such event was the Los Angeles premiere of Tron: Ares.
Disney’s sci-fi film, Tron: Ares (also known as Tron 3), premiered in Los Angeles at TCL Chinese Theatre on October 6, 2025 – and this time, AI stole the spotlight

Well… the usual – the cast’s entry, paparazzi flocking to get the pictures, fan interactions, a live musical performance by Nine Inch Nails, but most importantly… The thing that grabbed everyone’s eyeballs was how AI was a major part of the premiere. From Tesla Robots to AI posters, saying AI played a major role in the evening would be an understatement.
So, in this blog, I’ll discuss everything about the premiere, what happened, the reactions, and anything else that might interest you.
Firstly, a little bit about Tron: Ares Plot and Cast
So, first of all, what is Tron: Ares about? Well, it is the third entry into the Tron movie series, following up on the 2010 Tron: Legacy. The movies take place in a set of virtual realities known as “The Grid,” where the computer programs inside often engage in gladiatorial battles. In this entry, a highly advanced program (known as Ares) created by Dillinger Systems, a tech corporation, is sent on a significant mission, marking the first instance of humans interacting with AI in the real world.
The movie stars prominent names, with Jared Leto as the main character and an ensemble cast that includes Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and others. Directed by Joachim Rønning and written by David DiGilio and Jesse Wigutow, the movie is of the science fiction action genre. Nine Inch Nails provides the music for the project.
Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the film reportedly has a budget of $200M. At the time of writing this article, the film has grossed $14.3M. As for the critical consensus, it has received a ‘lukewarm’ reception, with the following scores: 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, 48 on Metacritic, and 6.7 on IMDb.
So, What Happened At The Premiere?
So, just like any other big-budget Hollywood flick, the Disney sci-fi film Tron: Ares held its Los Angeles premiere at TCL Chinese Theatre. Apart from the usual activities expected at such an occasion, the event was full of AI tech, owing to the theme of the movie.
The major attraction was Tesla’s humanoid robot, known as Optimus, which was at the forefront. The robot showcased kung fu moves and fight stances for the attendees. The team also gave it a makeover, featuring a full matte black body and red stripes to match the movie’s aesthetic. This is, in contrast, to the usual colors of the Tesla Bot, which are a combination of white, blue, and black.

And no one was immune from the skill showcase of Optimus, not even the lead actor, Jared Leto, against whom the robot showcased his skills as well, looking like he was starting a duel with the actor. The actor reciprocated and conjured up a fight stance, resulting in the most memorable moment of the evening.
Alongside the robot, the event also featured many cosplayers and props from the movie, such as the futuristic bikes. The collaboration with Elon Musk wasn’t limited to Optimus; they also teamed up with X’s AI bot, Grok, which served as an image generation tool, apparently allowing fans to take photos and receive customized posters.

So, What Were the Reactions?
The reactions were mostly what you would expect. Elon Musk wrote on his personal X handle, “Optimus at the Tron Premiere!” and Tesla’s official X account for Optimus humorously tweeted, “Tried to start a fight at the Tron: Ares premiere.” And it’s safe to say that most of the reactions from this event were positive.
However, I need to emphasize the word ‘mostly’ here for a second. The ‘Poster’, which I talked about (just a few lines above), did garner backlash from a section of social media, which classified it as ‘AI Slop’ (a term popularly used for low effort and unrealistic AI-generated images). Although relatively minimal, this reaction to an aspect of the event is definitely not a ‘positive.’
AI in Cinema: Different Perspectives
Well, many will brush it off as ‘just another premiere’ of a Hollywood flick, and will forget about it, especially because the life span of any discourse lasts only a few days on the internet, due to its transient nature.
Regarding the discourse surrounding AI in Cinema, it wouldn’t be wrong to conclude that no one wants anything to do with AI. Any mention of its usage in any aspect of a project causes an eruption of fans and online communities against such decisions. And very rightly so… No one wants AI to replace their jobs, especially something that involves a creative process, and everyone unanimously agrees upon this.
Only recently, many celebrities came forward against an ‘AI actress’ called Tilly Norwood, voicing their displeasure and having SAG-AFTRA release a statement condemning the launch of this ‘actress.’
But is AI completely useless? I wouldn’t think so. Let’s listen to Ben Affleck, a Hollywood A-Lister, on the topic: AI will never take over the creative aspects of the industry, but will handle laborious and time-consuming tasks, enhancing accessibility and economic relief in filmmaking. This is something I very much agree with and believe in.
It would be extremely useful if filmmaking could become much more economical, allowing wider access to people. If AI can help in that, then sure, GO AHEAD! And, if it can extend to other areas of the industry, without threatening people’s job security, then that’s great as well.

Final Thoughts
So, to conclude, do I believe that this is some historic landmark in the widening of AI’s mainstream usage? Absolutely not. But, I do think that going forward, we will likely see more and more usage of AI, not in creative aspects, but in a similar manner with future projects.
Regarding perspectives on AI, I do not believe AI poses a threat to the movie industry; rather, it is a tool the industry can leverage to enhance accessibility to filmmaking. It can be seen as a utility that will enable more independent filmmakers to create projects, while offering fans a wider variety of movies to watch.
As the third entry in Disney’s Tron saga, Tron: Ares demonstrates how AI is gradually becoming a supporting player in modern filmmaking. Whether you’re curious about the Tron Ares plot, its visuals, or how the Tron 3 cast brought this virtual world to life, the film highlights the ways technology can enhance storytelling without replacing the human creative touch.
